Such a clean, well thought out project. I love the buttons for 1UP and the MAME dashboard. I would love to restore mine just like you have done. Here's a pic of mine. $50 off Craigslist. I'm not a DK fan, so I'm turning mine into a super mario cabinet with the original board. Just picked one up off ebay. $$$

Your blog is a major source of inspiration for me, thanks for taking the time to (1) do it the right way and (2) post your progress.

p.s. Here's a pic of my cab: http://twitpic.com/39c72q

Thanks for the kind words! I still play it all the time and it gets a lot of use when I have friends over.

Your cabinet looks a lot like mine did at the beginning - it is a great starting point. Some bondo and a fresh coat of paint will really bring it back to life. Try and post your progress somewhere - I love reading about restorations even if I've already done it myself!

This is incredible. I'm starting my restoration this week - picked up a cab for $35 (didn't have the coin door like yours though). I, too, face the same dilemma of original boardset vs MAME; I'm going with MAME due to economics. I just can't justify spending that kind of money on OEM parts, especially when I could probably pick up a working cab for almost the same $$. Where did you get your MaLa layout?? It's awesome!

What version of MAME did you use on your Windows XP?
